🎶 Will I understand what’s happening?
Absolutely! Our programmes contain a brief summary of the story line. And our singers are all trained professionals whose acting abilities will add to your full understanding and enjoyment of the opera.
👗 What should I wear?
There’s no strict dress code. Most guests wear business casual to elegant attire (think nice pants/dress with a blazer), but jeans are fine too. Wear what makes you feel comfortable!
⏰ When should I arrive?
Doors open 1 hour before curtain. Arrive between 1:45 and 2:25 PM for a 2:30 PM show. Seating is General Admission, but there really are no bad seats at First Baptist.
👏 When do I clap?
After big arias (solo songs) if you’re moved
At the end of acts
During the curtain call (when performers bow)
Don’t stress—we’ll guide you!
🤫 Is it okay if I don’t know the story?
Yes! Read our free program notes in our Newsletter before the show
📱 Can I use my phone?
PLEASE silence all devices that may go BEEP, and no photos/videos during the performance. Feel free to take photos during the curtain call.
🍷 Can I bring drinks to my seat?
Only water in closed bottles is allowed in the sanctuary.
🎟️ What if I need to leave early?
For minimal disruption, please wait for a suitable break, such as applause between arias, or at the intermission. Ushers can guide you.
😊 Will I stick out as a newbie?
Never! Our staff and regulars love introducing newcomers to opera. Smiles and curiosity are all you need.
